The Biden administration’s open border policies have not only created a catastrophic immigration crisis at the southern border but also posed grave threats to American citizens. President Biden’s betrayal of enforcing immigration laws has overwhelmed the Border Patrol, allowing a flood of undocumented migrants, deadly narcotics like fentanyl, and potentially dangerous individuals to enter the country unchecked. This Biden Border Betrayal and Democratic policy failures to secure the border and protect American lives have enabled transnational criminal organizations to exploit the porous border for human trafficking, drug smuggling, and other illicit activities, unleashing a crime wave that jeopardizes the safety of ordinary Americans [15]. The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated.
The Democrats’ open border agenda, from halting deportations to establishing lax enforcement priorities, has not just allowed drug cartels to gain a stronger foothold in the U.S., it’s practically handed them the keys. The result? Young migrant children are lost to forced labor, indentured servitude, and human trafficking. This is not just a policy oversight; gross negligence is costing lives and destroying families. The consequences of unchecked border crossings are dire and should cause serious concern.
Historical Context of Democratic Border Catastrophes
Origins of Oversight: Tracing the historical negligence of Democratic border policies.
The challenge of effective border control in the United States has grown dramatically over the past few decades, with over 400 million travelers entering the country through official entry points and hundreds of thousands crossing the border illegally yearly [2]. Faced with enormous political pressure to stop illegal immigration, especially after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. government has devoted ever more resources to enforcing its border policies [2] [16]. However, Congress has a history of setting unrealistic or unfeasible immigration enforcement goals, even with the billions of dollars appropriated for the purpose [2]).
Shifts Toward Danger: How Democratic administrations have progressively weakened border security.
Since its inception in 1924, the U.S. Border Patrol has had a proud service history, with its core values of professionalism, honor, integrity, and respect for human life. However, Democratic administrations have progressively shifted their stance on immigration over the years. In the 1990s, critical Democratic constituencies like labor unions were more restrictionist and antiimmigrant, fearing competition with American workers. However, around 2000, this stance began to shift, with the NAACP and AFL-CIO reversing their positions and viewing immigration as a civil rights issue rather than a worker threat.
Legacy of Betrayal: Assessing the severe impacts of prior Democratic policies on current border security challenges.
The legacy of Democratic border policies has had severe impacts on the current border security challenges. In 2007, when most Democrats supported a bipartisan immigration bill, progressive leaders like Sherrod Brown and Bernie Sanders voted against it, citing concerns over the impact on American workers [7]. However, by 2013, labor groups had dropped their concerns, and no Democrat voted against the comprehensive immigration bill [7]. This shift towards a more open border stance has allowed transnational criminal organizations to exploit the porous border for human trafficking, drug smuggling, and other illicit activities, unleashing a crime wave that jeopardizes the safety of ordinary Americans [1] [2].
Despite powerful bipartisan coalitions pushing for immigration reform over the past two decades, Republican efforts to rewrite immigration laws have been scuttled repeatedly. The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013, which tied a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants to rigid border security benchmarks, passed the Senate with bipartisan support but stalled in the House due to pressure from far-right Republicans [17]. This legacy of betrayal by Democratic administrations, prioritizing humanitarian concerns over border enforcement, has contributed to the current crisis at the southern border. It’s time for a change, for stricter immigration control that puts American lives and safety first. There is hope for a better future if we can enact these necessary changes.
Crisis Under Current Democratic Rule
Disaster by Design: Exposing Biden’s Dangerous Open-Border Strategy
Under the guise of humanitarianism, President Biden has enacted a series of executive decrees that have effectively dismantled the robust border security measures previously in place. This drastic policy overhaul has directly led to a surge in illegal border crossings, overwhelming our Border Patrol and endangering American communities. Notoriously, the Biden administration has terminated over 350,000 asylum cases in just two years, a sharp increase compared to previous administrations, sending a clear message of de facto amnesty to illegal entrants. Critics argue this policy has effectively opened the gates for unchecked migration, creating a national security vacuum [8].
Failure at the Frontline: Biden’s Border Neglect Fuels National Crisis
The consequences of Biden’s immigration policies have been catastrophic, manifesting in what is arguably the worst border crisis in U.S. history. Under his watch, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered over 7.8 million illegal immigrants at the southwest border in the last three years alone, leading to a staggering backlog of 3.5 million asylum cases. This crisis is not merely a failure of the administration but a deliberate neglect that has empowered drug cartels and traffickers to exploit the porous borders more aggressively than ever before. Biden’s early executive actions to halt deportations and reassign enforcement priorities have all but assured cartels and criminals that their activities will face minimal resistance on U.S. soil [1], [8].
Rebellion Against Recklessness: States Stand Strong Against Democratic Border Failures
Faced with the Biden administration’s catastrophic border policies, several frontline states have taken bold steps to protect their citizens, effectively declaring a revolt against the federal government’s abdication of its fundamental responsibilities. These states are on the front lines, dealing directly with the fallout of human trafficking, deadly drug influxes, and rampant illegal immigration—all exacerbated by the administration’s failures. Congressional Republicans have pledged to hold Biden and his officials accountable, pushing for transparency and firm actions to secure the border and safeguard American lives. This revolt highlights a growing chasm between state governments forced to act and a federal administration seemingly indifferent to the chaos at the border [1], [9].
Blueprint for Bedlam: Dissecting the specific open-border policies pushed by the Biden Administration
At the onset of the Biden administration, the president signed a series of executive orders rolling back former President Donald Trump’s border security initiatives, leading to a spike in illegal border crossings 8. Recent reports revealed the administration granted thousands of unlawful immigrants “mass amnesty” by terminating more than 350,000 asylum cases in two years 8. This change in practice was instituted by a 2022 memo from ICE Principal Legal Adviser Kerry Doyle, instructing agency prosecutors to advise immigration judges on nonpriority cases suitable for dismissal 8.
The report indicates a significant increase in asylum cases due to the Biden administration’s policy changes. In 2022, 102,550 cases were dismissed, followed by 149,000 in 2023 and 113,843 cases in the first four months of 2024, compared to just over 26,000 during the entire Trump administration. According to a study published by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, since 2021, 77% of asylum seekers have been allowed to remain in the United States [18].
Collapse of Enforcement: The stark failures in law enforcement and compliance under Biden’s watch
Under the Biden administration, the United States has seen the worst border crisis in American history, with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reporting more than 7.8 million encounters with illegal immigrants at the southwest border over the last three years and more than 9.5 million encounters nationwide 8 [19]. The repeated failures in border management under Biden’s leadership have led to an unprecedented backlog of 3.5 million asylum cases, posing a substantial burden on the immigration system and increasing the risk of criminal activities by illegal aliens 8.
The directives, starting with the halting of deportation on the first day of the Biden Administration, followed by the enforcement priorities under Secretary Mayorkas, have made it clear to drug cartels that the majority of people they help cross the border, for one reason or another, are not going to be subject to deportation or enforcement actions, ultimately helping the cartels gain a stronger foothold in the country 1 8.
States in Revolt: How frontline states are defying Biden’s failure to secure the nation
President Biden and his Administration have refused to take any responsibility for the catastrophe they created at the southern border 1. The Biden Administration’s reckless policies are fueling human smuggling, stimulating drug cartel operations, enabling deadly drugs such as fentanyl to flow into American communities, and encouraging illegal immigrants to flout U.S. immigration laws 9 1.
Oversight Republicans have vowed to be relentless in their pursuit to hold Biden Administration officials accountable for this ongoing humanitarian, national security, and public health crisis, demanding transparency and accountability from the administration 9 1. Frontline states are defying Biden’s failure to secure the nation as they bear the brunt of the crisis, with human trafficking flourishing, deadly drugs pouring into towns across the U.S., and laws being flouted due to the administration’s dereliction of duty 9.
American Lives at Stake: Case Studies of Failure
Tales of Tragedy: Chronicling specific incidents and lives lost due to unchecked border crossings.
Conservatives have warned for years that Biden’s open borders and mass releases would bring increased crime and cost American lives 10. The murder of nursing student Laken Riley in Athens, Georgia, by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela with outstanding charges was one of the first stories to raise the alarm in late February. But it’s far from the only one 10.
In Langley Park, Maryland, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador (already ordered deported by a judge) was charged with killing a toddler in a shootout. In Kenner, Louisiana, an illegal immigrant from Honduras (already wanted for raping a 14-year-old girl) was charged with stabbing a victim he was robbing 10.
In Campbell County, Virginia, an illegal alien from Venezuela was charged with the sexual assault of a minor. In Provo, Utah, an illicit Guatemalan alien working with a fake Social Security card was arrested on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl 10.
This litany of violence belies claims that illegal immigrants commit fewer crimes than American citizens. But even if that were true—and studies from England, Germany, the European Union, France, Sweden, and even South Korea suggest that it’s not—it wouldn’t change a thing because every single crime committed by an illegal immigrant is totally preventable. Indeed, all the crimes above were only possible because open-border policies allowed the perpetrators to enter or remain in the U.S. illegally 10.
Economic Burden: Analyzing the financial repercussions of mass illegal immigration.
The fact that we’ve seen 80 individuals on the terrorist watchlist attempt to enter our country illegally via our southern border since October is a powerful reminder that not everyone trying to enter our country illegally is simply looking for a better life 11 [20].
Our border communities are overwhelmed. Our Border Patrol agents are overwhelmed. The chaos at our border is unquestionably facilitating illegal cross-border activity, including the smuggling of deadly drugs like fentanyl into our country 11 [20].
New York City has seen a flood of illegal immigrants as a result of President Biden’s border crisis. New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently stated that his city is, quote, “being destroyed by the migrant crisis” 11 [20].
I’ve talked to sheriffs in South Dakota – about as far from our southern border as you can get – who are dealing with fentanyl that has been trafficked across the border from Mexico 11 [20].
About seven in ten Americans (71%), including majorities in both parties, cite better economic opportunities in the U.S. as a significant reason for the migrant influx 12. 22% point to the financial burdens associated with the migrant influx, including the strains migrants place on social services and other government resources 12.
Social Decay: The profound social consequences of the Democratic open-border agenda on American communities.
It is profoundly troubling that so many unknown individuals are evading the Border Patrol and making their way into our country 11 [20]. When explicitly asked about the impact of the migrant influx on crime in the United States, a majority of Americans (57%) say the large number of migrants seeking to enter the country leads to more crime 12.
Republicans (85%) overwhelmingly say the migrant surge leads to increased crime in the U.S. A far smaller share of Democrats (31%) say the same; 63% of Democrats instead say it does not have much of an impact 12.
22% also cite security concerns. Many of these responses focus on crime (10%), terrorism (10%) and drugs (3%) 12.
Democrats’ open-border policies and the influx of illegal immigration have effectively made every state and community a border town. The repercussions of this reality hit home in my home state of Maryland with the recent case of Ervin Jeovany Alfaro-Lopez, a Maryland church teacher charged with sexually assaulting multiple children. Alfaro-Lopez, a repeat offender who entered the country illegally multiple times, committed abhorrent acts against innocent children, leaving a trail of trauma and devastation in his wake 13.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by lax immigration policies and the failure of Democrats to prioritize the safety of American communities. Despite being ordered to be deported, Alfaro-Lopez was able to evade justice and continue preying on vulnerable people. [21] His ability to exploit loopholes in our immigration system highlights the urgent need for more robust border security measures to protect our communities from such atrocities 13.
Solutions and Salvage: Reversing the Damage
Shielding America: Reinstating Ironclad Border Policies
The current border chaos demands immediate and decisive action to reinstate and reinforce policies that protect American lives. It’s imperative to reverse the lax enforcement that has become the hallmark of the Biden administration. We must reinstate proven security measures, like physical barriers and rigorous vetting processes, and enhance surveillance and manpower at critical points along the border. This will not only stem the tide of illegal entry but deter those considering violating our national sovereignty.
Patriot Defense: Bolstering Local Forces Against Federal Failures
The battle against a broken border is not just fought at the border—it affects every community across our nation. To reclaim our safety, funding should be redirected from ineffective bureaucratic overhead to empowering local law enforcement and community initiatives that support lawful order and public safety. Local forces must be equipped and authorized to work in tandem with federal agencies to tackle the spread of crime tied to illegal immigration, ensuring communities are safeguarded, and offenders are held accountable.
Sovereign Strategy: Crafting an Unyielding Defense for U.S. Borders
To salvage the situation, a bold, strategic vision is needed that overhauls our approach to immigration and puts American interests first. This involves setting up humane, efficient processing centers for asylum seekers away from the border to prevent illegal entry and ensure proper vetting. It also means updating and tightening asylum laws to close loopholes exploited by bad actors. Our policies should balance compassion for legitimate refugees and the uncompromising defense of our borders.
Securing the Future: Advocating for robust policy changes.
The administration can and should fully fund and support civil society, including social and legal service providers that assist with asylum cases. 14 Policies like providing a right to counsel in immigration proceedings could help ensure access to protection for those seeking asylum. 14 Additionally, the administration should create non-custodial, humanitarian reception centers at the border instead of detaining asylum seekers under Title 42 policies. 14
Empowering Communities: Boosting community involvement and enhancing local law enforcement
To address the border crisis, the administration should overhaul the federal immigration budget, moving funds away from detention and enforcement toward asylum processing and humanitarian needs. 14 This could involve creating non-custodial regional processing centers where federal agencies and NGOs can coordinate efforts to assist newly arrived migrants. 14 Preparing for and terminating Title 42 policies that deny asylum access would also help restore a viable humanitarian protection system. 14
Strategic Vision: Crafting a proactive and protective approach
Securing the future requires a significant shift in thinking and policymaking, with the administration investing significantly in dedicated humanitarian processing infrastructure at the border. 14 This could involve creating an Emergency Migration Fund to provide a flexible and durable response during high migration. 14 The administration should also bring asylum law into the 21st century by lifting harmful antiimmigrant laws passed in the 1990s and ensuring a right to counsel in immigration proceedings. 14
Conclusion
As we’ve dissected throughout this article, the current administration’s border policies—or lack thereof—have significantly compromised national security and public safety. The Biden administration’s refusal to enforce robust border controls has not only facilitated a crisis of illegal immigration but also emboldened criminal elements that threaten the very fabric of American society.
We’ve highlighted the urgent need to reestablish firm border policies prioritizing American citizens’ safety and well-being. This includes a recommitment to enforcing immigration laws already on the books, enhancing support for border patrol and local law enforcement, and ceasing policies that effectively invite lawlessness at our borders.
The overwhelming evidence points to a clear conclusion: America cannot afford continued political negligence on border security. It is time for a rigorous reassessment of these policies and a resolute action plan that puts American lives and interests first. This nation’s citizens deserve a government that protects them, a secure border, and a policy framework that respects the rule of law. Anything less is a betrayal of the American people and the principles upon which this country was founded.
We must demand accountability and decisive leadership to rectify these failures. Only through a firm and unwavering approach can we restore integrity to our borders and safety to our communities. It is not just a matter of policy but a profound duty to every American who calls this great nation home.
